Since establishement in 2014, Thilawa SEZ has been the investment destination for many companies with over 100 companies currently in operation. Thilawa SEZ is regarded as one of the flagship projects realized between Myanmar and Japan government to accelerate and promote economic growth in Myanmar since its democratization in 2011. Sumitomo Corporation has been playing a key role in the development of Thilawa SEZ through providng know-how in developing and operation by dispatching 2 representatives including the President of the operating company. In 2019, we welcomed Her Excellency Aung San Suu Kyi, the State Counsellor of Myanmar, and gratefully received a comment as “one of the most proud economic zones in ASEAN countries”.
